Why a legacy gift matters
Every Parsha Sheet we distribute, every chavruta night, every kiddush after services, every girls' learning programme is made possible by people who believe in what we do. Legacy gifts give us the confidence to plan further ahead than a single fundraising year and to invest in the long term.
Even a small percentage of your estate left to TAL can mean a year of children's programming, a year of weekly Torah sheets, or the cornerstone funding for a brand new initiative.
Three ways to leave a legacy
-
A residuary gift
You leave a percentage (1%, 5%, 10%) of whatever remains of your estate after other gifts and expenses have been paid. The most common form: it adjusts with the value of your estate.
-
A pecuniary gift
You leave a fixed cash sum. Easy to specify, and we recommend reviewing the figure every few years against inflation.
-
A specific gift
You leave a particular item (property, shares, jewellery) which TAL would receive or sell. Talk to us first so we can plan around it.
Suggested wording for your will
If you'd like to include TAL in your will, please share the wording below with your solicitor:
"I give to Torah Action Life, registered charity number 1145908, of 1-4 Belmont Parade, Finchley Road, London NW11 6XP, [the sum of £_____] OR [_____% of my residuary estate] to be used for its general charitable purposes. The receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer of TAL shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors."
Inheritance tax
Gifts to UK-registered charities are exempt from inheritance tax. If you leave at least 10% of your taxable estate to charity, the rate of inheritance tax on the rest of your estate may be reduced from 40% to 36%. Your solicitor or financial adviser can talk you through the detail.
Tell us, if you'd like to
Letting us know that you've left a gift in your will is entirely optional and confidential. It helps us thank you, understand your wishes, and plan responsibly. Nothing you tell us is binding, and you can change your mind at any time.
